Headcovering

Reclaiming Biblical Womanhood (video)

Is it sufficient to promote a return to biblical roles for men and women, without also recognizing the symbol that represents those roles? Can we, as women, fully reclaim biblical womanhood but ignore headcovering? I don’t think we can.

The main reason why we can’t, is because God’s Word demands that these two things work in unison: the principle of male leadership and female submission must be accompanied by the symbol of men uncovering their heads and women covering theirs, during prayer or prophesying because 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 teaches this. An honest reading of the text, with open mind and willing heart, reveals that this must be so.

Another reason why we shouldn’t dismiss this little piece of cloth, is because it functions kinesthetically as a physical reminder of a spiritual truth. God created us as beings with both a spirit and a body; these two are closely intertwined. He designed our physical senses to help us experience and understand His creation. What senses are involved in putting on a headcovering, or taking one off? Is it possible that the impact that little act has on our behavior, and on our thinking, is much greater than we understand?

Since God is the One Who made us the way we are, and since He is the One Who told us to headcover, it just makes sense to obey Him. He knows best how something so seemingly small and insignificant as putting a piece of cloth over our heads is just what we need.

The One Whose wisdom is considered foolishness by the world, but whose simple truths are actually stronger than the world’s mightiest philosophical constructions, is the One we should be listening to. Let the world have it’s false wisdom. Let them think we are “foolish.” But, this foolishness is what will help us regain our strength as women living out God’s perfect and beautiful plan for women.

19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? . . .

25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. . . .27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

(1 Cor. 1:19-20, 25, 27)

Here is a video I put together that explores this topic:

  1. ‘The One Whose wisdom considered foolishness by the world,but..is the One we should be listening to.’
Yes.The more we get closer to God,the more we get farer from the world’s value. I know that this fact sometimes make us feel ‘not understood ‘ by other’s.
To be a true Christ believer means finding never decayed treasure, but it does not mean that we can get what we want in this world, including other’s agreement, understanding, support.

Also thank you for video! Your voice is so feminine,I like to see you speaking.

    1. Thanks, Sanae!
I agree with your profound observation. In seeking first God’s kingdom and His ways, we must leave behind some of the world’s ways. This may lead to our being misunderstood and unappreciated, but Jesus Himself experienced that, and a servant is not greater than his (her) master.

  2. And on days when we feel we have been far from his footsteps, even if we haven’t, how blessed it is to retire and cover our head as the heavens are also shrouded yet shining brightly. It really feels like being under the shadow of His wings.

P.S. You look beautiful with your scarf on.

    1. Thank, you, Jacqueline!
I agree with you that covering also gives one a sense of being under God’s protection, and can be a form of comfort and assurance. When we live according to God’s design, we remain under His protection, and the covering symbolizes that. How wonderful!
