The following declaration presents the basic, core beliefs that my husband and I hold firmly within our hearts and home. I have copied these items from the Statement of Faith published by the church that we attend.
Additionally, we value:
(1) The husband’s leadership, and the wife’s biblical submission, as part of a respectful, loving and self-giving relationship.
(2) The practice of leaving all family planning in God’s all-wise and trustworthy hands.
(3) Modesty and gender-distinction in apparel, so that all the females in our family wear long, flowing skirts and dresses (at least below the knee, but preferably longer).
(4) Headcovering for women, and head un-covering for men: while at church, and while reading/teaching the Bible and praying with other believers during Bible studies.
(5) Homeschooling our children.
I have not included references for the distinctives listed above because they are included in the articles I have written for this site. To find out more, please read my posts on these issues! And now, I will introduce to you our fundamental beliefs:
… about GOD
We believe in one God. We believe in God who is eternally existent in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit – each of whom possess equally all the attributes of deity. (Isaiah 48:16; Matthew 3:16-17; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Hebrews 1:5-8; Matthew 1:23; 1 John 5:20; Acts 5:3-4; Psalm 24:1; 1 Thessalonians 1:9: John 4:24; Matthew 5:48; Leviticus 19:2; John 5:26; 1 John 3:20; Psalm 139:7-10; Jeremiah 32:17; Matthew 19:26)
… about JESUS
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal second person of the trinity, who was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is fully God, but became fully man to save a lost world. We believe that he lived a perfect life, was crucified, and three days later rose from the grave. He ascended into heaven, and will one day return again. (Matthew 1:8, 23; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:17; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17; Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:14-15, 7:25; 1 John 2:2, 4:9; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-20-15)
… about the HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the eternal third person of the trinity, who permanently indwells every believer upon his or her faith in Jesus Christ. (John 3:3-5, 14:16-17, 16:8, 13; Acts 1:8, 5:3-4; Romans 8:9, 14; 1 Corinthians 12:11-13; Titus 3:5-6; Ephesians 1:13-14, 5:1-8; 1 Peter 1:2)
… about the BIBLE
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error, and is the final authority of faith and practice. We believe the Bible is the true story of the whole world, all 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35; John 14:23-24, 17:17; 1 John 2:4-5; 1 Peter 1:24-25)
… about MANKIND
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, mankind is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his or her own efforts. (Genesis 3; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:23, 5:10-19, 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-10; Matthew 25:46; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Titus 3:5-7)
… about SALVATION
We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin. (John 1:12-13; Romans 2:5-6, 5:8, 10:9-13; Acts 16:30-33; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Peter 1:18-19)
… about ETERNITY
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all mankind, to the eternal communion with God for the believer, and the eternal separation from God for the unbeliever. (Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:5-11; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 50-54; Daniel 12:2, John 5:28-29, 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Peter 3:7-12; Revelation 20:5-6, 13-15)
… about HOW TO LIVE
We believe that every follower of Jesus should live for Christ and not for himself or herself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Holy Spirit, every believer should mature and pursue spiritual transformation to the image of Christ. (Philippians 2:5-8; Mark 9:43-44; Ephesians 4:1-16; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:4; John 15:8; Colossians 1:10; John 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 8:38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:4-5; Titus 2:11-15; John 20:31; 2 Peter 1:3-11)
… about the CHURCH
We believe the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God and make Him known. (Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-28; Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:23-33; Revelation 19:11-16; Matthew 18:15-17; 1 Corinthians 1:2, 7:17; 1 Timothy 3:1-15; Acts 2:41-47, 14:23; Ephesians 5:27)
